The Rapture – “We Spend Half The Time (On Stage) Smoking Pipes And Not Doing Anything.”

Along with being a musician, Gabe Andruzzi has unexpectedly taken on another occupation over the last few months – professional bad weather dodger.

The Rapture’s keyboarder and bass player has been jetsetting over the world for shows and personal holidays – missing most of the typically chilly winter in his hometown of New York.

“New York’s winter has been a very mild one… and I’ve managed to escape most of it,” he said.

“We went to South America for a few weeks and I went to Singapore and Bali over the New Year, and now we’re off to Australia, so I’ll miss the tail end of winter and feel the warm weather.”

The Rapture are coming Down Under next month to play at the Future Music Festival around the country, along with a handful of sideshows in selected cities.

Andruzi said the band have a whole lot of love for local audiences due to their enthusiastic nature.

“We really love playing Australia, you’ve got some great audiences there,” he said.

“It’s been a little more than a year since we’ve been there and we’re lucky to get back.

“We’ve got no idea how you guys have received the new album (In The Grace Of Your Love) so we’re eager to find out.”

The band has never played Future before and is looking forward to hanging out with some of the other bands on the bill and watching their sets.

“I’m super curious to see Fatboy Slim and Swedish House Mafia,” Andruzzi said.

“I once thought they made tracks, and now I want to see their spectacle. It’s going to be an interesting festival.”

And speaking of spectacles – don’t expect any pyrotechnics or energetic sequences from The Rapture during their set – as Andruzi says their shows are “super low key now.”

“We just sit in long chairs and don’t move around much on stage,” he said.

“We’ve all grown big beards and spend half the time smoking pipes and not doing anything.

“This current show is more about showing our performance art side, and I hope these fans are excited to see this new side of us.”

The Rapture play at Future Music Festival across Australia next month, and are also doing sideshows in Melbourne at The Forum on March 6 and in Sydney at The Metro on March 8.  For all the details click here.
