Sydney genre-hopping beatsmith DJ Mailer Daemon is back with his new track Always On The Grind, featuring Jeswon from Thundamentals, The Tongue and Daily Meds MC P Smurf.
A high end piece of production that reflects Mailer Daemon’s varied background (having produced tracks with electro pop artists Nik Valentino and Catcall amongst others) Always On The Grind has an eclectic mix of everything: Kanye West style vocal manipulation to Aphex Twin pitch-shifting bass synths and atmopsherics, all underpinned by a driving club beat.
In a scene that usually features production that would make you think we were stuck in the late 90s, Always On The Grind displays a contemporary style that marries a hip hop sensibility with the genre-fusing sound of Sydney’s club scene. Broad in every respect, it’s easily the most impressive Aussie hip hop track I’ve heard in quite a while, and easily the best so far this year.
