Could Flight of the Conchords be the dark horse on the Splendour In The Grass 2012 lineup? The boys have recently announced they would be touring Australia in 2012, and while the New Zealand tour has been announced to run throughout June, so far there has been no announcement of the Australian dates. This has lead to speculation that the band may in fact be withholding the Australian announcement to coincide with The Splendour lineup announcement, which is due in the next few weeks.
In February Bret McKenzie told Billboard:
We’re about to tour Australia and New Zealand… We haven’t toured there in years. Whereas we’ve been in America recently and I don’t want to tour America until we’ve got some new material.
The New Zealand tour sold out in minutes and management even decided to add more arena tour dates to accommodate the Kiwi love for the hometown boys. The final NZ show is scheduled for July 1st, meaning that it would only seem logical for the comedy act to tour Australia throughout July.
If they were to be announced on the Splendour lineup, it wouldn’t be the first time Flight of the Conchords have headlined a major festival. In 2008 they played the Sasquatch Festival along with names like The Cure, R.E.M, The Flaming Lips, Death Cab For Cutie and Modest Mouse.
One can only pray this rumour turns out to be true, until then enjoy this…
