Chris Cornell Speaks About New Soundgarden Album

Grunge pioneers, Soundgarden, who recently played the 2012 leg of the Big Day Out Festival, have told their home-town radio station KISW Via diffuser.fm) that their record will not sound like their latest single Live To Rise, which features on the Avengers soundtrack, a film starring The Hulk, Thor, Ironman, Captain America and a few others.

Frontman Chris Cornell told the radio station that he thought Live To Rise was “not really what I think of as a necessarily family-friendly song, but it’s as close as we’ve ever come.”

Continuing “I think a film like this appeals to little kids all the way to old people because it’s an action film; it’s comic book characters, but it’s also pretty witty dialogue and accomplished actors doing it. So it had to be somewhat open to all of that. But,” he cautioned, “also first and foremost it has to be a Soundgarden song.”

Speaking out about the forthcoming album, Cornell said that “Some of the songs on our new album are pretty far left of center, and sort of zero in on more of a hardcore Soundgarden fan and not necessarily a family that goes to see a film like that.”

After their killer performance at this year’s Big Day Out, I’m expecting an even bigger album to follow. Listen to their song Live To Rise from the Avengers soundtrack below.
