Kurt Cobain Was Working On A Solo Album Before He Died

It’s officially the week for Nirvana-related news.

First, Courtney Love claimed drummer Dave Grohl tried to seduce her daughter Frances Bean Cobain. Frances Bean later said she’d never been approached by Grohl.

Yesterday, we reported that Grohl and bass player Krist Novaselic were back in the studio with Nevermind producer Butch Vig working on a new project.

Now, Love’s former bandmate – ex-Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson – has claimed that frontman Kurt Cobain was working on a solo album prior to committing suicide in April 1994.

Erlandson revealed the news to Fuse.tv while promoting his new book, Letters To Kurt.

“(Kurt) was headed in a direction that was really cool,” Erlandson said.  “It would have been his White Album.

“That’s really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me.”

“That’s why I was really sad (when he died). I was like, ‘Oh man, not only are you cutting off a life, but a message to the world… Who knows where the music would have gone?”

Loudwire has reported that Erlandson believes the material may surface someday.

“I heard some talk about somebody putting together some raw, rough acoustic thing … and that would be more intimate than the box set (2004’s With the Lights Out), because all those little jams you have to throw out (for that box set release).”

“They presented some (of the demos) but there is stuff that has not been put out.”

“I’m not in control of things. I just wish something would come together. I think the fans would be a lot happier.”
