Leonard Cohen’s Former Manager Sentenced To 18 Months Jail

Leonard Cohen is most likely singing Hallelujah – literally – with his former manager, Kelly Lynch, now officially out of his hair.

Lynch has been sentenced to eighteen months in jail with five years probation after being found guilty of harassing Cohen with a series of expletive-filled emails, letters and voicemails.  Cohen claimed that some of the voicemail messages would sometimes be 10 minutes in length, and that Lynch said he “needed to be taken down and shot”.

According to NME and Rolling Stone, Lynch will also have to attend anger management classes, psychological training and alcohol education sessions.  On top of that, she’s also banned from owning weapons for the next 10 years.

Cohen first sued Lynch in 2005, claiming she had stolen $5 million from him and made up lies that he was was a drug addict in order to destroy his reputation.  He also said that Lynch had accused him of tax evasion and perjury in a series of messages that made his life “a complete and utter living hell.”

Lynch’s lawyer Nikhil Ramnaney unsuccessfully claimed that the messages were prompted by the loss of Lynch’s career and that they were “cries for help”, rather than threats.
