Kurt Cobain’s Solo Album: “He Was Working On Songs, But They Were Just In His Head”

We heard news the other week that Kurt Cobain was working on a potential solo album in the months prior to his death, after former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson claimed in an interview that he had heard some of the new material, calling it his “White Album”, and talking up the possibility that it might one day be surfaced.

“They presented some (of the demos) but there is stuff that has not been put out. I’m not in control of things. I just wish something would come together. I think the fans would be a lot happier.”

But Nevermind producer Butch Vig has put a dampener on the rumours, saying that it most likely wasn’t getting worked on to a great extent, and that Cobain was probably more concerned with helping out his wife Courtney Love with her career at that time instead.

Vig said to NME, “He was working on songs, but they were just in his head. He might have just played some songs to Eric… Around that time period he only wanted to talk about Courtney’s album. I never heard any of his new songs”.

Recently, the other two former Nirvana member’s, Dave Grohl and bass player Krist Novaselic, were back in the studio with Nevermind producer Butch Vig working on a new project. We’ll have to wait and see what will come of that.
