Watch: New Trailer for Dave Grohl’s ‘Sound City Studios’ Doco

Just like every other music news outlet, Music Feeds has been eagerly following the evolution of Dave Grohl’s upcoming documentary about Sound City Studios, the studio in which Nirvana’s Nevermind was recorded.

Although news leaked about the proposed doco late last year, rumours that the documentary was actually in production began to surface at the beginning of this year when Grohl began collaborating with Slipknot’s Corey Taylor.

Soon after Corey revealed that the collaboration was indeed intended for use in the Sound City Studios project, stating that:

“Dave is doing a documentary about the legendary board from Sound City that everybody and their mom recorded on… He called me. He was like, ‘Would you like to do a tune?’ I was like, ‘Are you serious? I’m on a plane right now.’ And it’s really cool, because it’s me, Dave and Rick Nielsen [Cheap Trick] on one tune.”

Since that time a teaser trailer was released that rapidly depicted a host of familiar musical personalities and gave a glimpse of how massive this project truly is.

The latest news on the doco comes in the form of a deliberately cheesy old-style commercial, advertising Sound City Studios’ ‘cutting edge’ technology and a hand-written statement by Grohl expressing his passion for the project.

According to Anti Quiet Foo Fighters/Nirvana producer Butch Vig is predicting the documentary and the soundtrack will be released early next year.

“(I’m) hoping that we’ll get it finished and mixed in the fall… to have it come out early next year, like January or February or something like that,” Vig reportedly said.
