Gorillaz Frontman Damon Albarn Hints New Material Despite Fallout

In a recent interview with Shortlist, Gorillaz and Blur frontman Damon Albarn has backtracked on recent remarks that it will be ‘unlikely’ that Gorillaz will continue, stating that there could be another album in the future with or without his creative partner Jamie Hewlett.

During the interview, Albarn has gone on record saying that nothing would change musically if he was to release a new album as Hewlett had little input with the music, focusing more so on the visuals.

“It was very much Jamie [Hewlett] did the visuals and I did the music. The music won’t change, so there could be another Gorillaz record tomorrow. It wouldn’t necessarily have Murdoc – the cartoon aspect to it – but musically, no, nothing’s changed whatsoever.”

The news comes in light of the reconciliation of Albarn and Hewlett following a recent fallout. Albarn continued to discuss the situation, stating that Hewlett “wants to do other things, and I understand”, adding, however, that “You never know, in a few years he might have a burning desire to draw some of those pictures again, and as soon as he does that, as far as I’m concerned, there will be another Gorillaz album”

Albarn made it clear that the end is not in sight for either Blur or Gorillaz as neither band have discussed any form of finale.
