Queen of Disco, Donna Summer Dead At 63

Donna Summer passed away last night in her Florida home after a long battle with lung cancer, according to reports from TMZ. Originally from Boston, ‘The Queen of Disco’ began her career as a backup singer in the early 70s, before being discovered, and quickly coming out with a chart hit Love to Love You Baby. She then went on a run of three consecutive number one albums, and four number one singles within a year.

In the same TMZ story, they report that several sources say that Donna believed she contracted her lung cancer by inhaling toxic particles from the 9/11 attack in New York City, which would be a pretty tragic way to die.

Her family issued this statement after she died: “Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy”.

In 2004 Summer was admitted to the Dance Music Hall of Fame, and she performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in honor of President Obama in 2009. Up until her death, it was believed she was focused on finishing a new album.
