Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is still bummed the band hasn’t got a no.1 single in Australia yet.
In an interview with Kathy McCabe that appeared in News Limited papers yesterday, Martin again raised the topic that his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, still has bragging rights over him when it comes to topping the singles charts locally.
Paltrow notched up a No.1 on the ARIA singles charts when she teamed up with Huey Lewis for their hit Cruisin’ – the theme song from the film Duets.
The closest Coldplay has ever got to No.1 was with recent hit Paradise, which peaked at No.3 after it was flogged to death in promos for Channel Seven’s hit drama Revenge.
“It fucking took 12 years to get up there but the reason we keep going is so we can get a No.1 single in Australia one day”, Martin said in the interview.
“We’ll do anything that lets us keep coming back to Australia to go on tour there. We’re ready now but just need to lose a bit of weight and get our teeth in order.”
Tickets for Coldplay’s Mylo Zyloto Australian tour went on sale this morning – with the band playing stadiums in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in November.
A second show in Sydney was quickly added this morning for Sunday, November 18 at Allianz Stadium, with promoter Michael Chugg declaring that “there is no stopping this band”, and he “couldn’t be happier at the public’s response to Coldplay’s first stadium tour in Australia”.
