Yep that’s right: Gotye will be releasing an album of remixes for his APRA award-winning track Somebody That I Used to Know, because, let’s face it, we’re all in the mood for more of it, aren’t we? The album will feature ten remixes of the track from various DJs such as Tiesto, M-Phazes and Dan Aux.
So far, there are over 1,000 unapproved remixes of this song scattered across the internet, and this release will collect most of Gotye’s favourite versions in one place. But we’re all getting a little tired of it now; it’s becoming an endurance, and even Gotye admitted he’s getting a little over it when he spoke to NME in April, saying, “Sometimes I feel like I’m a bit sick of it. My inbox, on any given day, has at least five covers or parodies or remixes of it, and there’s only so many times you can listen to the one song”.
When asked if he thought he will ever be able to write another hit as big as this one, Gotye replied: “I don’t know, time will tell. I don’t know whether I can or whether I want to”.
He who rides the tiger can never get off.
The tracks will be available on iTunes next Friday, June 8.
