Ex-Fleetwood Mac Guitarist Bob Welch Found Dead

Ex Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch has been found dead last night in his Nashville home. It is thought that he might have committed suicide after a note was recovered at the scene. Welch played with the band during the 70s, appearing on five albums with the group before being replaced by Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.

According to Billboard, the Tennessean newspaper is reporting that his wife had found the musician at their home with a gunshot wound to his chest. He had been suffering with a number of health issues, but it is not clear whether this would have led to his apparent suicide.

Welch was born in Los Angeles, playing in a number of groups before being joining Fleetwood Mac in 1971, slotting in for Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer, who had just departed. His guitar and voice featured on five albums during his tenure.

Welch jumped in on lead guitar duties for 1974’s Heroes Are Hard to Find, his last album before departing and making way for Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

He was aged 66.
