Ariel Pink Breaks Up His Band ‘Haunted Grafiti’ Over Facebook

Unpredictable American songwiter Ariel Pink has split up his band Haunted Graffiti, informing fans of the news via his Facebook page over the weekend.

According to Clash Music, the status went along the lines of:

“BROKE UP THE BAND TODAY

HAUNTED GRAFFITI R.I.P.”

The break-up comes only a few days after he told Spin Magazine about plans for the band’s second album Mature Themes – which is set for release on August 20.  It’s the follow-up to their 2010 debut, Before Today.

Pink told Spin in the interview that Mature Themes won’t be heavily based on his lo-fi origins, which he has become known for.

“It’s so diverse but so different from anything I’ve done before”, he said.

“In a sense, it’s really the record I wanted to make back when I made Before Today, but couldn’t due to pressures and different factors.

“We had time to let our hair down and try new things.”

The ‘band’ have two dates in Japan scheduled for later this month – followed by North American shows in September and October, so it will be interesting to see how they handle them.

The first single from the album – a cover of Donnie and Joe Emerson’s Baby – is already streaming, and features guest vocals from Dam-Funk. You can listen to it here.
