Rick Astley will be returning to Australia for the first time in 23 years for a series of headlining shows.
Astley has had a lengthy career. Since 1987, charts all over the world have featured his tunes, and of course his smash hit Never Gonna Give You Up went to #1 on 25 different countries! By the time the pop superstar had hit retirement in 1993, he had sold a total of 40 million records worldwide. However, even in retirement he didn’t stop, continuously writing and recording music throughout the nineties and naughties.
Though what sustained his career like nothing else was the internet meme sensation of being Rick Rolled. What started off as a hilarious joke soon became a painfully common experience – that is if you are on the receiving end. Inflicting a Rick Roll is awesome, trust us. It hit international TV news reports as well as newspapers, resulting in around 62 million plus views of the clip, one of the most views on Youtube, though probably about 61.5 million were rolled.
