Deftones’ Chi Cheng Has Pneumonia

Deftones bass player Chi Cheng‘s health has unfortunately taken a bad turn – with his family revealing that he has been diagnosed with pneumonia.

Cheng has been receiving special treatment since he was seriously injured in a car accident in November 2008, which sent him into a coma for seven months and required him to have part of his brain removed.

Blabbermouth reported that postings on OneLoveForChi.com (a website raising funds for Cheng and his medical expenses) revealed that Cheng is in the ER department of a New Jersey hospital “with SOMETHING serious going on. Pneumonia and don’t know what else. Not good! Please send the word again to PRAY HARD”.

A follow-up post highlighted that Cheng is taking three antibiotics to treat the disease, and his blood pressure and oxygen levels are low.

Deftones are currently in the studio working on a follow-up to their 2010 album Diamond Eyes. Sergio Vega – who stepped in to play bass on tour with the band after Cheng’s accident, is now recording the album with them as well.
