Brisbane’s Tivoli Goes Under The Hammer

Brisbane’s favourite venue, The Tivoli, has been added to the list of venues that have recently been listed on the property market. Owned by the O’Rourke family, the venue underwent a massive overhaul in the late 90s, emerging to be a somewhat hidden gem for the live music scene in Brisbane.

Speaking to The Music Network about it, John O’Rourke, managing director of the venue, said: “I can’t see it being anything besides [a live venue], So I can’t see that being changed. I’d be surprised if it was”.

The Music Network also reported that the sale will result in a domino effect that will see a break-up in the family company, and remaining assets will be distributed amongst those entitled. Continuing, O’Rouke told TMN: “That’s the only reason [for the sale], It’s a fantastic venue, a fantastic business.”

This announcement follows that of the impending sale of Sydney’s The Basement, and several near threats of the loss of The Annandale Hotel, which was only saved by a fundraiser. Although it is not due to financial reasons, it is also somewhat worrying.

The Tivoli can hold between 700-1200 punters, and is up for auction on 12th July. Hopefully a genuine fan makes the purchase and will take it on to bigger and better things.
