The xx To Return To Australia Early 2013

No one could have predicted the overwhelming reaction to news that The xx would be coming to our shores in July: the limited amount of tickets snapped up in literally minutes, it became obvious just how much of a touring force the band has become in Australia, having played our stages more than three years ago.

Update 14/01/2013: The xx have announced Australian tour dates, April 2013

Not only that, but the solo shows of member and rising production star Jamie xx sold out in a similar fashion! Australians sure do love the minimalist, British, dark, emotive, 80’s pop-infused Chillwavers. With tickets only available through a balloting system, many people were left with a bad taste in their mouths, having missed out. However, today, my friends, we have great news for you. In response to the head-spinning rate at which the sold-out sign was hung, Handsome Tours and The xx will be locking in a series of shows in Australia to kick off early next year, with more shows, bigger venues, ergo: more tickets this time!

This will mean that by the time they return, the dust will have settled from their sophomore release Coexist (set for release September 7) giving fans a good opportunity to become familiar with the new tunes. Coexist has high expectations all over the world after the band’s debut album xx, released in August 2009, achieved gold sales in Australia, platinum sales in the UK and accumulated over 1.3 million sales worldwide. The album has also been awarded the highly prestigious Mercury Music Prize, The Guardian’s First Album Award, Album of the Year by both Rough Trade Shops and XFM, and two South Bank and one NME Award nominations.

So stay tuned for updates on the yet-to-be announced tour dates, and be sure to grab a copy of the album once its available; heaven forbid it sells out here too…
