Splendour In The Grass 2012 Art Program

Splendour in the Grass 2012 is fast approaching. With another incredible lineup of local and international acts, this year’s instalment, which has returned to its original location at Belongil Fields in Byron Bay, is once again assured to be one of the premiere musical experiences of the year.

In addition to live music provided by the likes of Jack White, At The Drive-In, Bloc Party and The Smashing Pumpkins, Splendour will also be showcasing a variety of art pieces that, according to Splendour Arts curator Craig Walsh, help fans further immerse themselves into the Splendour experience.

“In addition to the bands, it’s the installations and unexpected arts encounters throughout the site that help create experiences. In 2012 we will be showcasing a combination of emerging artists, international visitors and Splendour favourites”, Walsh said.

The Music has kindly put together a list of some of the artists that are included in this year’s Splendour Art Program. These artists include:

Nicole Breedon and her 10-metre-long installation piece Let’s Get Metaphysical, which is powered by natural gas and will be fired up from 5:30pm to 1am Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Clint Hurrell, who has designed a series of creative and fractured projections named Idle Worship that he will be directing in the Mix Up Tent throughout the festival from 5:30pm to 1am.

Andy Forbes’ The Art of Marriage, which brings together witchcraft, voodoo and science in a experiment to bring souls together.

Annemarie Kohn’s curated display of modern artwork titled Cream. Artists that feature in Cream are Germany’s Clemens Behr, who creates 2D and 3D works of art by manipulating recycled material; James Dodd, whose form of street art employs bus shelters as his canvas; and Justin Shoulder’s GALA, a festival creature that comes to life via various costume changes and sounds. All three artists featured in Cream will have their works scattered throughout the festival site.
