It was way back in 2009 when most music fans first caught wind of then White Stripes member Jack White and The Rolling Stone’s guitarist Keith Richards recording music together. White had previously appeared playing with the Richards and The Rolling Stones in the 2008 Martin Scorsese documentary Shine a Light, but this was the first time to public knowledge that the two popular axe-men had been working on original material together.
Now, almost three years on, Richards has openly acknowledged that he would most likely be happy for the public to hear the duo’s collaboration. When recently speaking with Rolling Stone, Richard said if White was willing to unveil the as-yet-unheard material, he’d probably support its release.
“I don’t know if [Jack] ever considered that it was actually, like, master cuts… But at the same time, if Jack wanted to do it, I’d probably say, ‘Yeah'”, Richards said.
“I know Jack pretty well… He’s a lovely player”, he said.
There has also been speculation of a possible collaboration between White and Radiohead. The rumours began after Tom Yorke dedicated the song Supercollider to White during Radiohead’s recent set at this year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Yorke thanked White for currently unconfirmed reasons and mentioned the band has paid a visit to White’s Third Man Records studio in Nashville, TN.
White later confirmed this visit during an interview for the podcast program WTF with Marc Maron. As Spin reported when asked if Radiohead had indeed dropped into Third Man Records, White simply replied “Yeah, yeah”, and laughed cryptically when pressed for more information.
However, one thing is for sure: White will be in Australia for Splendour in the Grass 2012 while also taking the time to play a few side shows.
