Finalists Announced For 2012 Queensland Music Awards

The cats from Q Music have today announced the short list of artists in the running for awards in the 2012 Queensland Music Awards, a ceremony that is becoming one of the most respected in Australian music.

The finalists were selected by a panel of around 50 judges. They have handed down their decision to include Cub Scouts, Mosman Alder, Harmony James, Dubmarine, and The Medics. You can check out the full list here.

Alongside that short list is another comprised of artists currently in the running to score a smooth $10,000 in the form of the Arts Queensland’s $10,000 Billy Thorpe Scholarship supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

There will be winners from 20 different categories who will be announced at the event set to be held at Brisbane’s historic Old Museum building on August 14. This year’s festivities will be soundtracked with live performances form the likes of Ed Kuepper, Ball Park Music, The Art of Sleeping, The McMenamins and more.

It doesn’t stop there. Fans will be given the opportunity to get involved and can vote for their favourite Most Popular Female, Most Popular Male and Most Popular Group. The comp will be run through the Courier-Mail People’s Choice Awards and offers tickets to the Big Day Out, Harvest, Woodford, Soundwave, BIGSOUND Live and the Queensland Music Awards. Voting opens today through the Courier Mail website.

Tickets for the event go on sale July 5 and will cost $44 for Qmusic members and $55 for the rest.
