Listen: Pet Shop Boys New Single ‘Winner’

Legendary UK electronic pop music duo Pet Shop Boys are getting ready to release their new album titled Elysium, which is due for release this September. Previously we heard the album track Invisible, which was released along with the album’s announcement last month, but now we’ve been given another taste in the form of a new single titled Winner.

The track has arrived just in time for the London Olympics (you’d think) and includes inspiring lyrics such as ‘This is the moment that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives’, ‘You’re a winner, I’m a winner’ and ‘It took us so long, we worked so hard, we came so far to compete’, it’s just begging for Channel Nine to compile a montage of previous Olympic footage with this track over the top. We’re thinking Cathy Freeman 2000 era, or slow-mo Thorpey exploding out of the pool with his arm in air after he’s realised he’s beat another world record.

The LP was produced in Los Angeles by Andrew Dawson, who’s worked with the likes of Fun., Kanye West, Jay-Z, Destiny’s Child, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Erykah Badu to name a few. Speaking with Idolator, Dawson explains his experience working with the duo: “They’ve never done a record in Los Angeles before. They wanted to be around that ‘thing’, and get that classic L.A. sound — the L.A. players and all that stuff.”

The album is expected to be released this September.
