Parkway Drive Working On New Album

Australian hardcore quintet Parkway Drive are currently tinkering away on what will be the band’s fourth studio record. Recording in LA, the currently untitled album will be pieced together over seven weeks under the watchful eye of producer Matt Hyde, who has worked with the legendary Slayer as well as Hatebreed, Children of Bodom, Alkaline Trio and Sum 41.

Parkway Drive frontman Winston McCall says the band is looking for ways to improve and evolve from 2010 record Deep Blue, while still remaining true to Parkway Drive’s signature sound.

“When we finished Deep Blue I was like, ‘I don’t know where we go from here?’ But if there was ever a way to step up from the last record, this is the way to do it,” McCall says. “We’re expanding in every way we can. But at the same time – and I say this with every new record – it still sounds like Parkway.”

Indeed it will take a mighty effort to follow up 2010’s Deep Blue, which reached Gold status and was awarded the ARIA for Best Hard Rock and Metal Album after debuting #2 on the ARIA Charts and #39 in the US on the Billboard 200.

As McCall explains to Alternative Press (where you can also check out exclusive in-the-studio pics), Parkway Drive are open to suggestions that will help the band’s continued success.

“This time we did want to have a lot of outside involvement. On Deep Blue, we pretty much wrote everything beforehand and recorded it exactly how we wanted it – which was great. But this time around we thought, “Let’s try to get outside opinions on these things”. We’ve got a lot of musical ideas for this record that are completely new to us, and we needed someone to help us realize them. Luckily, Matt has really come to the party with that stuff.”
