Coachella Cruise – Come Sail Away with Pulp, Hot Chip and Girl Talk

Coachella is hitting the road, and by road we mean ocean, giving the popular music festival a set of sea legs and setting sail on the S.S. Coachella. The cruise which takes place during December will give passengers the chance to catch the likes of Pulp, Hot Chip, Yeasayer and Sleigh Bells as they cruise through the tropical paradise of the Bahamas or Jamaica, depending on which ship they board.

From the pictures provided on the S.S. Coachella website, the cruise liner looks pimping and will surely be a ‘Music Festival At Sea’ to be remembered. As noted by Rolling Stone, Goldenvoice, the promotions company behind Coachella, have been riding a wave of recent success with Coachella 2012 reigning in $47.3 million in grosses after being held over two consecutive weekends, a move Goldenvoice plans on repeating in 2013.

However, as fans of the festival may already be aware, the future location of Coachella was in a state of flux after an Indio, California councilman proposed a ticket tax increase that could drive ticket prices up from $18 to $36.

Unwilling to absorb the cost or pass it on to festivalgoers, Goldenvoice threatened to cancel the massive festival in 2014 and move Coachella to a new location by 2015. Since that time, the suggested ticket tax has been suspended.
