Last year Jane’s Addiction released only their fourth studio album The Great Escape Artist despite the band’s debut record coming out approximately 24 year’s ago. The band’s well-documented off-again, on-again history has seen fans endure prolonged periods of inactivity with a 13-year gap between Jane’s Addiction second record, 1990’s Ritual de lo habitual and their third, 2003’s Strays.
Again fans were forced to exercise patience with 8 years passing until last year’s The Great Escape Artist, but frontman Perry Farrell assures that this will not be the case with the band’s fifth studio record. In a report from Loudwire, Farrell told Local Bozo that once the band wraps up its month-long US tour in August, the band will get to work on the untitled album.
“The plan is, as soon as we get off the road, we begin writing our next record. I’d like to give it a six month window and just get another Jane’s record out, coming off the heels of ‘The Great Escape Artist.’ I think that’s the way to do it for us,” Farrell told Local Bozo.
“I don’t think we’ll wait eight years (laughs) to do another record. You know, we didn’t plan on getting back together…we had broken up. That was part of the reason that we took so long, but these days, the best thing that an artist can do or a group can do is stay busy and stay on the trail. And that’s what our plan is.”
Along with handling vocals for Jane’s Addiction, Farrell is the founder of music festival Lollapalooza, with Lollapalooza 2012 taking place over this coming weekend and featuring the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jack White, who just recently tore it up at Splendour in the Grass.
