Organisers behind the London Games are really throwing everything they’ve got at it, continuing to blend old talent with new in the Closing Ceremony as they did in the Opening Ceremony. We’ve already had One Direction and Blur slated to appear at the event; now we know that Ed Sheeran and Pink Floyd will be collaborating for their performance.
The two will be fusing their talents for a revised version of 1973 mega hit Wish You Were Here, of coarse by the great Pink Floyd. Speaking to US radio station NOVA, the acoustic singer songwriter Sheeran confirmed rumours: “I’m playing the closing ceremony – which I think is kinda cool right? A lot of people think that I’m doing a song with The Who, but I’m not – I’m doing a song with Pink Floyd. I’m doing ‘Wish You Were Here’.”
Though before you get too excited, it won’t be the entire lineup. Of course the ones who have passed away will remain so, though not all the existing members will be appearing. According to The Quietus, Nick Mason will definitely be involved, leaving it up in the air whether either Roger Waters or Dave Gilmour, or in fact neither, will be there.
Pink Floyd and Sheeran will now join fellow London Olympics musical alumini Paul McCartney and the Arctic Monkeys, who are expected to get a top-20 track out of their rendition of The Beatles Come Together, and Muse, who have soundtracked the event.
