Sydney Festival 2013 Soundtrack Competition

We’re in the final weeks of winter, which means there’s only a season left til summertime. As Sydneysiders well know, that means the return of the Sydney Festival, a self-described “bold cultural celebration based on the highest quality art and big ideas”, which is set to take place from January 5 to January 28 in 2013.

In the past, event organisers have employed the music of acts such as The Middle East, Beach House and Sufjan Stevens to officially soundtrack the Sydney Festival, but for 2013 things are getting downright grassroots as the doors are open to anyone willing and able to contribute a worthy song to promote the festival.

Sydney Festival is offering $5000 in cash for whoever writes and records a song that most expertly captures the essence of the festival. With a judging panel comprised of Sydney Festival Director Lieven Bertels, Megan Washington, FBi Radio’s Dan Zilber, Ralph van Dijk from Eardrum Australia and Zan Rowe, the competition will be decided by some of the most knowledgeable personalities in Australian music.

The Competition is open for entries now. It closes September 7, 2012.
