Listen: Green Day Release 2nd Single ‘Kill The DJ’

Amongst all the hype of their three-part album release expected later in the year, Green Day have today released the second single off the forthcoming ¡Uno! (part 1 of three). Kill the DJ follows in the footsteps of previous single Oh Love, pretty much exactly.

About 10 seconds into the track it becomes obvious where the name came from, and about 15 seconds into it you’ll probably change song. Much like in Oh Love! The track is comprised solely of Billy Joe Armstrong repeating the one line over and over again ‘Kill the DJ’ which, according to Armstrong, is a sweeping political statement rather than a comment on electronic music figures, telling Rolling Stone that the culprit rather is “static and noise … Like this government cannot, will not, agree with itself. They refuse to make it work. Right, left –- it doesn’t matter. It blows your mind and pisses you off. It’s a song about being drunk, going through this chaos, feeling fucked up and all you want to do is get more drunk.”

Well, at least we still have three albums worth of material (minus the two tracks we’ve heard) for Green Day to prove that they still maintain their 2000 energy (think Warning), although it’s looking like dance-pop is the once punk rock icons’ new clothes.

¡Uno! will be released 25/9 followed by ¡Dos! on 13/1, and ¡Tres! on 15/1/2013.
