Rdio Catalogue To Be Boosted By 18 Million Tracks After Deal With TuneCore and CDBaby

Huge news came today for independent acts all over the world: music streaming service Rdio has signed off on a deal to team up with online aggregators TuneCore and CD Baby, two of the biggest digital distributors of indie acts.

The landmark agreement is set to boost Rdio’s music selection by a whopping 18 million tracks. It will also mean that there is a direct path for bands with the do-it-yourself ethos to be connected with millions of listeners all over the world.

Speaking of the deal, Rdio CEO Drew Larner stated: “Independent artists are an important part of Rdio. Because of the seamless nature of music discovery on our service, music from these artists thrives amongst our users…TuneCore and CD Baby are two of the most effective platforms out there for self-released artists and we’re pleased to be able to support these artists, add another avenue for monetization and connect them to new fans around the world.”

Created from the same team behind Skype, Rdio continues to revolutionise the way we access our music. Similar indie online distributors are: ONErpm, BFM Digital, Zimbalam, AWAL, and Ditto, all of which have made a drastic difference to the plight of indie acts who would otherwise struggle for the music to reach the masses. Already TuneCore and CD Baby have together pumped a crazy $500 million back into the artists they distribute.
