Having recently been in town for Splendour in the Grass and in the wake of their latest album, Bloc Party’s Kele has spoken to triple j top dog Richard Kingsmill on a slightly different creative path the vocalist will now be endeavoring to undertake.
In the interview, Kele unveiled plans on a soon-to-be-released book written totally by himself. The book, which is expected sometime next year, will be a series of short stories, as the frontman explains: “It’s called Midnight on a Bicycle and I’m editing it at the moment. I’ve finished it and all the stories are in order. In a few months it will be completely done, so I expect [it will be available] at some point next year.”
This, however, is only the start of Kele’s literary journey. After that release, he will be following up with a second, unrelated book, though this time it will be a novel. According to the UK-based musician, the inspiration comes partly from personal events: “It’s going to take me quite a long time,” he said, “I can see this already. Aspects of it draw on my personal experiences, but it’s not all [autobiographical]. It’s set somewhere else. That’s all I’m going to say.”
