Kangaroo Island Music Festival Cancelled

With great sadness I report that yet another Australian Festival has pulled the plug on itself. The Herald Sun reports that the festival suffered a $500,000 blowout and caused a division between the public of Kangaroo Island about the wildlife of the area.

There has been no official announcement put out; however, project manager Tina Atkinson has hit the final nail in the coffin, saying that “It’s definitely not happening”. The news comes as yet another blow to Australian live music after a year that has seen the loss of Coaster Festival, Good Vibrations, and stacks of others. Yet, to be honest, it shouldn’t come as a surprise as Australia has the highest festival per capita ratio in the world. Mix that with the current financial situation and you have the perfect recipe for disaster.

Last year’s lineup boasted the likes of Eskimo Joe, The Beautiful Girls and Van She; however, there will not be a 2012 lineup. Will this cancellation of festivals continue?
