Watch: Crystal Castles Perform New Song ‘Wrath Of God’

YouTube Channel operator FFKR69 must be stoked. Their online video profile that has eight subscribers is blowing up thanks to Pitchfork grabbing hold of some footage uploaded onto the page, which kinda’ shows Crystal Castles debuting a new song titled Wrath of God at the recently past Reading Festival.

To be honest, the clip is shot so far away all you can see in regards to the stage are lights and smoke, and the audio is so terrible it gives little to no indication of what a recorded version of Wrath of God might actually sound like. What it does show, however, is that the crowd had a jolly good time dancing around to the new track. The highlight comes at about 53 seconds when a circle has opened up and a lightweight punter is levelled by a larger festivalgoer. The hefty hitman then picks up his scrawny victim and everyone dances together in harmony.

Although the footage doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming record from Crystal Castles, Pitchfork have posted the following statements from the Canadian electro duo about the direction of what will be their 3rd studio album.

“Oppression is a theme, in general… A lot of bad things have happened to people close to me since II and it’s profoundly influenced my writing as I’ve realized there will never be justice for them,” Alice Glass said in a statement. “I didn’t think I could lose faith in humanity any more than I already had, but after witnessing some things, it feels like the world is a dystopia where victims don’t get justice and corruption prevails. I’m one step away from being a vigilante to protect people and bring justice to the people I love. I’ve thought about it.”

“We wanted the new album to sound like a completely different and new experience,” said Ethan Kath in a statement. “Any keyboards and pedals used on I or II were traded for different keyboards and pedals so that there would be a new palette of sounds to work with. We wouldn’t allow any computers near the studio, everything had to be recorded to tape. We’d limit ourselves to one take because we believe the first take is the rawest expression of an idea.”
