For once it’s actually been not too long between drinks! Fans of The Raveonettes will be pleased to know that the band already plans on following up 2011’s Raven in the Grave with 2012’s Observator, and it gets even better; you can listen to the whole thing below.
The Danish duo found themselves in New York’s Sunset Sound Studios after ‘the warm Pacific pull’ enticed the band to depart from their icey homeland, or so says guitarist/singer Sune Rose Wagner. As you would expect, it is a fairly loaded release. Entering the studio with The Doors in mind, it was also during a period where Wagner was battling severe depression and was ordered by a doctor to quit the source.
Wagner explained to NME what the album meant, revealing that “This album rose from such a dark place but ended up illuminating the gloominess and restlessness in a way I never thought possible. I honestly never thought this album would see the light of day, all the turmoil, all the craziness, all the sleepless nights, but in a single burst of spontaneous madness it came to be. I’m so thrilled for people to hear this new album in its entirety, it’s quite a dark ride.”
The release will potentially remind you of a younger, 2005 version of The Raveonettes, and frt good reason. Observator saw the band reform with producer Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, The Go-Gos and Richard Hell) who was at the helm for their 2005 album Pretty in Black. Observator will be available September 10.
