Following the news this morning that an Iowa-based doctor had been arrested after unintentionally causing the death of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, long-term friend and bandmate Shawn Crahan, known by the stage name The Clown, has released a statement.
According to Citizen Times, Crahan was one of 9 people called to give evidence in the case, alongside Gray’s widow Brenna Gray. Both were listed on the preliminary complaint manifest and spoke out against Daniel Baldi’s malpractice. It was this group of 9 who first blew the whistle that Baldi “continually wrote high dose prescription narcotics to a known drug addict from Dec. 27, 2005, until his death.”
“None of it is going to bring back our brother Paul,” Crahan commented when asked how he feels about the recent verdict. Clown also commented on the culture of prescription drug abuse in today’s society, “This epidemic of this sort of activity is becoming more and more … evident. It truly is becoming a problem amongst people. And it trickles all the way down to the youth. And awareness needs to be brought about.”
Crahan continued to clarify that the issue lies with “not only substance abuse but the ability to acquire substances, to get chemicals and the efficiency of it….Hopefully justice will be served,”
His bandmates are obviously still struggling with the loss of their brother. You may recall the emotional press conference held following the death with the small crowd that makes up Slipknot each speaking, describing their departed friend as “the essence of the band Slipknot.”
