REM Tell Fox News To Stop Playing ‘Losing My Religion’

REM have sent a cease and desist letter to Fox News after the network allegedly used the band’s music without permission, reports NME.

The US news channel apparently played REM’s classic 1991 hit Losing My Religion during its coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night; however, they failed to get authorisation from the band beforehand.

A statement was posted on REM’s official website overnight confirming the song’s airplay – and the actions the band have taken:

“REM’s ‘Losing My Religion’ was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night. REM today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song.”

Former frontman Michael Stipe added: “We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there.” Zing.

Based on the usual chain of events started by a cease and desist letter, REM are threatening potential legal proceedings against the network if Fox News don’t comply with their requests.

REM split up last September (2011) – with 15 studio albums to their name over their three decade-long career.
