Bernard Summer Glad Peter Hook Left New Order

New Order frontman Bernard Summer has told how “glad” he is that former bass player Peter Hook is no longer in the band – saying that he has not been very nice since leaving in 2007.

“He’s not been very nice,” Sumner told The Guardian, referring to their war of words, which started in 2007 when Hook announced that New Order were done as a band — a claim that the band’s management denied.

“To boil it down to its basic elements, if someone’s horrible a lot of the time, you’re not sad when they’re gone, you’re glad.”

New Order replaced Hook with Bad Lieutenant bassist Tom Chapman when they resumed touring last year, and Sumner insists it was the best for all involved.

“He wasn’t happy in the band — primarily with me but also, it seems, with almost everyone else.”

After playing in Australia as part of the Future Music Festival earlier this year, New Order are now preparing for a North American tour, which starts at the beginning of next month.
