Three Dead After Coach Carrying Bestival Festivalgoers Crashes

Three people have died and many more are seriously injured after a coach carrying punters from the Bestival Festival grounds in the UK overturned, having crashed into a tree.

According to BBC News, the coach, carrying 51 people along the A3 Carrageway in Surry, veered off between a tunnel entry and an exit from the road. No other vehicles were involved.

Following the incident, passengers were treated at the scene, though many were taken to hospital with serious injuries, including one flown to Southampton General Hospital with “life-changing injuries”, said police, while three were declared dead on location.

Investigators are still unclear what caused the crash: “I understand the road was dry. We cannot see any reason that the road conditions would have had any effect on what occurred,” commented Inspector Richard Mallett. According to NME, Surrey Police Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Kirkby added: “This has been declared a major incident and we are working with our colleagues from the other emergency services and other partner agencies to provide a co-ordinated response in line with agreed protocols. Our thoughts remain with the relatives of the dead and the injured at this time and we are working very hard to notify their next of kin.”

The coach was taking partygoers back from the recent Bestival Festival on the Isle of Wight. New Order, Florence and the Machine and Stevie Wonder all performed at the event, which has now been marred after this terribly tragedy.
