Lupe Fiasco: Returning Or Retiring?

Earlier this month Lupe Fiasco fans were hit with the news that the man behind hip hop anthems Kick, Push, Superstar and more recently Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free) would be hanging up the mic after his upcoming record Food & Liquor II – The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1.

The announcement came via a Lupe tweet, which thanked fans for their support and stated that his new album would probably be his last. Well, just this morning Music Feeds’ Rowan Dix had the privilege and pleasure of sitting down with the man himself and took the opportunity to get to the bottom of whether Food & Liquor II – The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1 represented the return or retirement of Lupe Fiasco.

As Lupe explains in the excerpt embedded below, the celebrated rapper will honour his existing label contract and then move away from creating music for commercial purposes, and rather pursue passion projects such as his punk band Japanese Cartoon. Although Lupe is obviously eager to break free from the shackles of his record deal, it sounds as though he is far from done with putting music out in the world.

Keep an eye out on Music Feeds for the full interview coming up later this evening.
