Arctic Monkeys’ Next Record Rumours In Full Swing

With their Olympic Opening Ceremony performance now a part of history, it’s time for English indie rock outfit Arctic Monkeys to look forward to their next record. Earlier this year comments made by frontman Alex Turner during an interview with Artrocker gave the impression the band would record their 5th studio record in their home city of Sheffield.

“It would be nice to record in Sheffield, which we haven’t done for a while. I was living in New York, and that’s where I wrote a lot of those [‘Suck It And See’] songs,” Turner told Artrocker according to NME.

But now a series of tweets from an unofficial fan-operated Twitter account, @ArcticMonkeysUS has placed the band in California’s iconic Joshua Tree desert. As noted by Diffuser the rumours stands in contraction to Turner’s previous comments but @ArcticMonkeysUS is sticking to their guns and it would seem rightfully so.

A recent tweet from the mother of Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders’, confirmed that the band is indeed in the dessert. As read in the tweets below Jill Helder reaffirmed the band’s location and added it was now time to come up with possible album titles.

Whenever the recording is taking place, vocalist Alex Turner told Artrocker in May that he hopes the record is heavier then previous releases.

“I think we’re going to go in the direction of those heavier tunes,” Turner told Artrocker, “We just did this new song, ‘R U Mine’, and I think that’s where it’s going to be at for us for the new record. We feel the strength of the last record is ‘Don’t Sit Down’. The other songs like that – ‘Brick By Brick’ – the other side of it is fine, but I’m not sure how much more of that we can do”.
