Green Day’s Billie Armstrong May Remain In Rehab Until Next Year

Late last month the news broke that Green Day’s frontman Billie Armstrong was admitted into a rehab facility for substance abuse only days after his headline-capturing outburst at iHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas on September 21, when he mistakenly thought Green Day’s set had been cut short to make way for Usher.

At the time Armstrong was outraged at what he perceived to be a sign of disrespect towards Green Day, with the singer quick to share his thoughts on the fiasco before breaking his guitar and storming offstage with his fellow bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool.

“Fuck this shit. Give me a fucking break. One minute left. One minute fucking left. You’re gonna give me one fucking minute? Look at that fucking sign right there — one minute,” Armstrong shouted, “I’ve been around since fucking 198-fucking-8. And you’re gonna give me one fucking minute? You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me! You’re fucking kidding me. What the fuck! I’m not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers.”

On September 24 Green Day posted an official statement on the band’s Facebook page apologising for their actions and acknowledging that “Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse”. Now in an update from Warner Bros’ Rob Cavallo, it appears Armstrong will be undergoing recovery for some time.

As reported by NME, the label boss explained that at the moment there is no certainty as to when Armstrong will come out of rehab. Meanwhile, Green Day prepares to release ¡Dos! on November 12 and ¡Tré! on January 14, 2013, with the first instalment in their album trilogy ¡Uno! having already come out on September 25.

“He’s under medical supervision for a while to get him clean. His doctors are still evaluating. All I can say is I don’t know if we’ll see him before or after Christmas. It’s basically undetermined when he’ll be back,” Cavallo said.
