Watch: Soundgarden Perform On Jools Holland

Soundgarden recently appeared on Later… with Jools Holland to shake loose and crank a couple of tunes. First off the rank was lead single Been Away Too Long from the soon-to-be-released new album King Animal. The returning grunge act then played Rusty Cage from their 1991 album Badmotorfinger, although there was nothing ‘rusty’ about the performance.

Soundgarden is all the talk at the moment with their first studio album in 16 years, King Animal, set for release in Australia tomorrow on November 9. Frontman Chris Cornell recently defended Soundgarden against accusations that the grunge band had reunited to capitalise on the current wave of nostalgia surrounding acts from the 90s.

Despite Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan labelling Soundgarden as a ‘nostalgia act‘, Cornell insists that the band reunited with the mindset of moving forward rather than looking back.

“If we’re writing and recording new and vital music, it’s taking care of itself. I definitely feel like there’s a place for who we are and what we do. We’re doing what we’ve always done as a band and we’re fortunate enough to have a long enough history that someone could actually suggest that we’re a nostalgia act. Good for us,” Cornell informed Spin.
