Mick Jagger: ‘One Direction Remind Us Of The Rolling Stones’ Glory Days’

Mick Jagger reckons there’s a real connection between his band the Rolling Stones and global boy band of the moment One Direction.

Jagger made the comments to CNN after watching a concert of the British boy band on TV recently. While completely different in musical styles, Jagger said the concert gave him flashbacks to the early days of the Stones’ success around the globe.

“I watched a concert of One Direction on TV the other night, you know, just to check [it] out,” he said.

“It reminded me very much of our early concerts, when we were pushed around among the audience and we would kind of float. They were like floating above the audience, and they looked really distinctly uncomfortable.”

“I remember feeling that same uncomfortable feeling of being pushed around in this very weird place about 50 years ago,” he added. “It was a very funny moment, because it was very similar to the things we’ve been through.”

The Rolling Stones are currently preparing for a handful of shows at London’s O2 Arena later this month to mark their 50th Anniversary as a band. Tickets for the sold-out shows have now soared to as high as a ridiculous £37,808 (AU$58,072.66) via a listing on online auction site Viagogo. The listing was for two ‘prime seats’ at one of the shows and included a jaw-dropping £4,800 booking fee.

Earlier this week, Jagger defended the high ticket prices for the concerts, which (on face value) ranged from £90 (AU$137) in the nosebleeds to £950 (AU$1446) for a Deluxe VIP Package.
