Yeah Yeah Yeahs Look To Release New Album Early To Mid 2013

Yeah Yeah Yeahs appear to be releasing a new album in the spring (autumn in Australia) of 2013. According to reports, a comment made by KRCW radio DJ Jason Bentley – who hosts a show called Morning Becomes Eclectic – indicated that the follow-up to their 2009 album It’s Blitz will be due out around then, though no audio or transcript has been sourced yet.

The rumours had already started to appear early last month when LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy spoke with the Huffington Post. When asked about his involvement with their recording (he had been rumoured to be helping them with new material) he said: “I think they’re done with their record now, I was just fussing around. I didn’t make their album. They’re just friends.”

The New York power trio will be in Australia soon, playing on the Big Day Out 2013 lineup as well as playing their own headline show in Sydney. Things do look like they’re starting to kick into gear with the band. So far they have three studio albums under their belt – 2004′s Fever to Tell, 2007′s Show Your Bones, and 2010′s It’s Blitz – all of which have made them cult favourites and have floored audiences around the globe. But could we hear some new tracks on the forthcoming new release?

Frontwoman Karen O recently contributed a new and original song to the new Disney remake of the film Frankenweenie. The song, titled Strange Love, is included on the film’s soundtrack, and is inspired by 60’s B-Film era music, with a calypso vibe, and it even contains a theremin solo.
