Last week Tom Morello dampened rumours that Rage Against the Machine were working on new material. Now the skilled guitarist has all but extinguished the flames of hope. In a recent interview with NME, Morello said that RATM are “not ready” to work on a new album.
Elaborating on his previous ‘no plans‘ comments, Morello suggested that it could be over a decade, if ever, until RATM release a new album. Morello’s comments contradict those of his former RATM bandmate, bassist Tim Commerford. Earlier in the month Commerford suggested to TMZ that a new RATM record was possibly underway.
“No plans for anything. This Rage boxset is the first official Rage Against the Machine release in 12 years. We’re on a once-every-12-years pace to release something,” Morello told NME.
The boxset that Morelllo is referring to is Rage Against the Machine – XX, a reissue of RATM’s 20-year-old self-titled debut that comes out Monday, November 26. Moerllo went on to tell NME that not everyone within RATM is eager to write new material. However, Morello does leave a glimmer of hope that someday perhaps we will hear something new from Rage Against the Machine.
“When bands make albums it’s because everybody wants to, and that’s not the case with Rage Against the Machine at the moment. Everyone in the band gets along very well, we consider each other friends and comrades in arms, but people sometimes don’t feel ready to do it. I don’t have one minute of one day that’s not filled with music, or politics, or family. If at some point Rage were to get it together to work more I would be open to that, but that’s not on the table right now,” revealed Morello.
