Watch: Nirvana Reunite Onstage With Paul McCartney For ‘Cut Me Some Slack’

Well, we can’t say we didn’t see it happening. We’ve been dropping mentions all day long with Music Feeds’ extensive coverage of the 12-12-12 Festival, which has featured the likes of Chris Martin, The Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, and a surprise appearance from Michael Stipe, The Who and stacks more. However, amongst those big names is something even more special.

People often save the best things until last, regardless of the situation. Well, that’s exactly what the organisers of the Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert did when they were organising the playing schedule. Despite having the biggest rock band on the planet on board, The Rolling Stones, it was the performance from Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl and some friends that blew the roof off Madison Square Garden.

Taking the stage with his band, Paul McCartney opened with a simple “I love New York!” before blasting into The Beatles’ Helter Skelter from their famous The White Album. The crowd were quick to respond, with fans jumping out of their seats. However, he was just getting started, swapping the famous bass guitar for his colourful Gibson Les Paul and transitioning into his own track Let Me Roll. With audiences somewhat aware of what could possibly happen, people began to wonder where the remaining members of Nirvana were. With the 12-12-12 concert and Sir Mac trending worldwide, people were just growing with excitement to see what would come next. And then it happened.

After finishing his seminal track Blackbird, the ex-Beatle went into a story. Describing how some “guys” had asked him to come jam, it was clear that he was discussing Grohl and friends. However, what sent the twitter-sphere into overdrive was his next comment: “And then the penny dropped, I realised I was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion”.

Blasting into their track that they’ve been playing as of late, which one would assume is titled ‘Cut Me Some Slack’, the crowd went into a frenzy. However, as Grohl and Novoselic left the stage, a slight scent of disappointment set in that there was no Heart Shaped Box nor Smells Like Teen Spirit. But one thing remained: they were rehearsing together. And that can only mean one thing, they have plans for the future. We await your return Nirvana.
