John Garcia On Performing Kyuss Songs “It’s Our God Given Right”

After what could be described as a pretty shitty year, Kyuss Lives! have earmarked Soundwave Festival 2013 as the final performance of the band, well, forever. But it’s not all bad news for the loyal cult-like following, as main man John Garcia explained in a recent interview with Music Feeds.

Garcia states that regardless of recent legal ramifications, the group will keep the classic tunes alive through their new project Vista Chino, but being sure to keep the two projects totally separate entities. When asked if the option of a new musical outlet has made returning to Kyuss Lives! less appealing, Garcia Responded:

“Abso-fucking-lutely…there’s no question. I couldn’t have put it better myself. Well, I don’t want to cause any trouble, this band doesn’t want to cause any trouble. All we want to do is get out there and fucking rock.”

He went on to add “Are we going to stop playing Kyuss songs? Fuck no, absolutely not – that’s our god given right and we’ll continue to do so. But with Vista Chino, we want to rear our head, we don’t want to ride the coat tails of Kyuss. Fuck that! Brent Bjork is not going to do that, if he was here right now he’d 99.99% agree with me. We’re here to fill a void and play music and that’s what we’re gonna do”

Even though fan response has been overwhelmingly positive, former member Josh Homme has slapped his one-time bandmates with a lawsuit, stating that they cannot record under the moniker Kyuss Lives! It is a very disappointing decision for fans and the band.

But by all accounts, the group seem to be looking forward to what the future holds, especially their Soundwave 2013 appearance.

Full interview will be up next week!
