Metallica Describe New Tracks As “Fast, Rocking, Crazy”

Lars Ulrich has provided a rare glimpse into the current state of Metallica’s forthcoming album. In an interview with Metal Hammer magazine, the sticksman has commented on the band’s new material, stating, “it felt heavy, it felt energetic, it was loud, it was fast, it was rocking, it was crazy.”

Ulrich continued to describe the tunes that the band had recently jammed at one of their latest studio sessions, confirming that “the snare drum was on there, and there were guitar solos, in case anybody was wondering.”

The yet-to-be-titled release with a currently unknown ETA will follow in the wake of the band’s 2008 album Death Magnetic. Lars added that the release will pick up where Death Magnetic left off, according to Contact Music, which could be a good thing or a bad thing or an awful thing.

“What we’re doing now certainly sounds like a continuation of where we left off four years ago,” he continued.

There’s no confirmation as to who will be at the helm in the studio, though previous co-conspirator Rick Ruben – whose services were enlisted for Death Magnetic – is a hot favourite, with Lars even saying, “I love Rick, we all love Rick. We’re in touch with rick constantly. We’ll see where it goes.”

There’s no reason to suspect that the band won’t be in fine form either, given how solid they looked on their recent Quebec Magnetic live DVD. We may even get some previews at Soundwave 2013

The ball park date of 2014 has been attached for the release.
