BDO Perth To Finish An Hour Early, And Will Be Noise Monitored Says Environment Minister

Perth’s Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) has today announced that in an attempt to minimise the inconvenience to locals, the Big Day Out festival is to wrap things up an hour earlier than expected, and they have made it clear that the event’s noise levels will be monitored.

The inhabitants of the Claremont area have been highly vocal on their contempt for the event, and similar ones, on account of the damage they cause to their part of the city; and now with the DEC weighing in, BDO organisers must be starting to feel as though they’ve outstayed their welcome at the Claremont Showgrounds venue.

Environment Minister Bill Marmion has stated that the event, scheduled to take place January 28, “must finish by 10pm and DEC will monitor noise levels throughout the event” in accordance with new ministerial conditions, which cannot be appealed, according to Perth Now. Marmion adds, “The conditions enable some exceedence of noise levels to take into account factors over which the organisers have no control, such as changing winds or unusual weather conditions.”

The DEC will allow organisers to start the event an hour earlier to make up for the difference, so festivalgoers should still be able to get a good solid day in.
