Swedish Man Diagnosed with ‘Metal Addiction’ Awarded Disability Benefits

A Swedish metal fan has successfully been diagnosed with ‘Metal Addiction’ and can now claim state disability benefits thanks to his obsession. As reported by the Global Post, Roger Tullgren, a 42 year old tattooed headbanging heavy metal enthusiast, saw three psychologists to have his condition clinically recognised.

“I have been trying for 10 years to get this classified as a handicap,” Tullgren told The Local according to Global Post. “I spoke to three psychologists and they finally agreed that I needed this to avoid being discriminated against.”

Tullgren is so obsession with heavy metal that he attended almost 300 metal gigs last year, rendering him unable to hold down a fulltime job. Tullgren also feels compelled to always display his metal side and would sooner wear a Slayer t-shirt to an interview than a suit.

“I signed a form saying: ‘Roger feels compelled to show his heavy metal style. This puts him in a difficult situation on the labor market. Therefore he needs extra financial help’,” Tullgren explained. “So now I can turn up at a job interview dressed in my normal clothes and just hand the interviewers this piece of paper.”

Thanks to the statements from the three psychologists and Tullgren resolve to fight the good fight, he now works part time as a dish washer where his wage will be supplemented by disability benefits. Tullgren’s new boss has agreed to allow Tullgren to wear his best metal threads, play metal tunes at work and take time off to attend gigs.
