Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘Thrift Shop’ $1.50 Favourite To Win Triple J Hottest 100

Two weeks before voting closes for the 2012 triple j Hottest 100, and the ‘it’ song of the last two months is emerging as the clear favourite to take out the world’s biggest song contest.

Fresh from notching their sixth week in a row on top of the ARIA Singles Charts today, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis‘ hit track Thrift Shop is leading the way in all major betting markets. Sportsbet is offering odds as low as $1.50, with Betstar showing the most value for punters at $1.80.

Laneway Festival headliners Of Monsters and Men are the boys’ nearest challengers, with their folky hit Little Talks at $3.50 across most outlets. They seem to have drifted with Sportsbet though – their odds are out to $4.00.

Local globe-trotting band-of-the-moment Tame Impala are next in line, with the two singles from their rave-reviewed album LonerismElephant and Feels Like We Always Go Backwards – both fetching odds under $10. The former is slightly ahead, averaging around $8.50.

Other tracks that have tickled the bookmakers’ fancies are The Rubens‘ breakout hit My Gun, Rudimental‘s Feel the Love and Skrillex‘s Bangarang – all of whom are outsiders at $17 or less. 2009 winners Mumford & Sons are considered a roughie to grab their second poll-topper, with I Will Wait out as far as $21 with Luxbet.

The 2012 triple j Hottest 100 will be broadcast live on triple j on Australia Day. Voting closes at midnight on Sunday, January 20. For a chart comparing most of the markets for the 2012 triple j Hottest 100, click here.
